Sweden’s unemployment rate rose to 9.9% in June 2026, up from 9.4% in June 2025, marking its highest level since January 2025. The number of unemployed increased by 42,700 over the year to 591,500, comprising 261,000 women and 331,000 men, corresponding to unemployment rates of 9.1% and 10.6%, respectively.

Among people aged 15–24, 280,000 were unemployed, giving a youth unemployment rate of 31.4%. Of these, 149,000 were full‑time students. The number of long‑term unemployed—defined as those without work for at least 27 weeks—reached 157,000, including 53,000 women and 104,000 men.

At the same time, employment among people aged 15–74 increased by 98,800 compared with a year earlier, reaching 5.4 million, of whom 2.796 million were men and 2.602 million were women. The average total number of hours worked per week was 165.7 million.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the overall unemployment rate stood at 8.7%, while youth unemployment was 24.9%.
