European equity markets were poised to open lower on Tuesday, as investor sentiment weakened amid a global selloff in semiconductor stocks. The decline was driven by growing concerns over circular artificial intelligence financing structures and escalating competition from China. This risk-off tone persisted even as oil prices extended their losses, following President Donald Trump’s comment that the US was engaged in “good talks” with Iran aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict. In Europe, investors will be watching French consumer confidence and employment figures, as well as unemployment and retail sales data from Spain. On the corporate front, earnings updates are expected from Unilever, Safran, Air Liquide, GlaxoSmithKline, Essilor, and others. In premarket trading, futures on both the Euro Stoxx 50 and the Stoxx 600 were down about 0.2%.
