2026.08.0605:10:28UTC+00Dutch Household Spending Growth Eases in June

Household consumption in the Netherlands rose by 1.7% year-on-year in June 2026, slowing from a more than one-year high of 2.2% in May. The moderation in overall spending growth largely reflected weaker momentum across most categories, with purchases of consumer goods increasing 3.0% from a year earlier, down from 4.6% in May.

Growth in durable goods spending eased to 5.7% from 7.1% in May, with outlays focused mainly on cars and electrical appliances. Expenditure on food, beverages, and tobacco also decelerated, rising 2.4% after a 3.0% gain in the previous month. By contrast, consumption of other goods swung lower, falling 1.5% after having increased 1.8% in May.

In contrast to goods, household consumption of services strengthened. Services spending rose 0.8% year-on-year in June, up from 0.5% in May, supported by higher expenditure on transport and communication, medical services, and housing. Households also increased spending in the hospitality sector and on recreation and culture. Services account for well over half of total domestic household consumption expenditure.
