2026.08.1112:14:19UTC+00Mexico Industrial Activity Rises More Than Expected

Mexico’s industrial production increased by 1.7% year-on-year in June 2026, recovering from a 0.7% contraction in May and exceeding market expectations of 1.5% growth, with all major sectors posting gains. The rebound was driven primarily by mining and quarrying, which expanded 6.6% following a 3.9% rise in the previous month.

Construction activity also strengthened, growing 5% after a 0.3% decline in May. This improvement was supported by robust growth in civil engineering works (8.9%) and building construction (5.2%). Utilities output returned to positive territory as well, increasing 0.7% after having fallen 0.9% in the prior month.

Manufacturing activity inched up 0.1%, reversing a 1.5% drop in May. The sector’s modest gain was underpinned by solid growth in the production of computers and communication equipment (5.8%), machinery and equipment (5.5%), and chemical products (5.3%). These advances were partially offset by declines in other segments, particularly in the manufacturing of textile inputs and textile finishing, which fell 7.2%.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, overall industrial activity rose 0.2% in June, rebounding from a 0.8% decline in the previous month.
