Net foreign purchases of U.S. long-term securities cooled in June, as TIC Net Long-Term Transactions fell to $172.7 billion, down from May’s revised $231.2 billion. The latest figures, released on 17 August 2026, point to a moderation in global demand for U.S. long-term assets after a strong prior month.

While still firmly positive, the lower June reading suggests a slowdown in the pace at which international investors are adding to their holdings of U.S. Treasuries, corporate bonds, and other long-dated instruments. The May 2026 level had marked a robust support for U.S. financial markets, and June’s pullback may indicate a more cautious stance amid evolving interest-rate and macroeconomic conditions.

Market participants will be watching subsequent TIC releases to determine whether June’s decline is a one-off adjustment following an exceptionally strong May, or the beginning of a broader softening in foreign appetite for U.S. long-term securities.
