2026.08.2500:46:50UTC+00Japanese Shares Fall on Tech Losses

The Nikkei 225 Index fell 0.9% to below 65,000 on Tuesday, marking a third straight session of losses and mirroring a tech-led selloff on Wall Street, where artificial intelligence infrastructure stocks remained under heavy pressure. Market participants were also cautious ahead of chipmaker Nvidia’s earnings later this week, seeking fresh indications of the strength of AI-related demand.

In addition, investors were focused on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s upcoming speech at the Fed’s annual Jackson Hole symposium on Friday for clues about the US central bank’s policy trajectory. On the geopolitical front, the US tightened sanctions on Iran and its trading partners in an effort to pressure Tehran back to the negotiating table.

Technology and AI-related names led the losses in Tokyo, with notable declines in Kioxia Holdings (-1.9%), Advantest (-4.8%), Taiyo Yuden (-2.1%), Tokyo Electron (-1.9%) and Ibiden Co (-1.1%).
