2026.09.0915:00:00UTC+00Canadian Consumer Sentiment Softens in September as PCSI Slips to 47.35

Canada’s consumer confidence edged lower in September, as the Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) slipped to 47.35, down from 48.19 in August 2026. The latest reading, updated as of 9 September 2026, signals a modest month-over-month weakening in sentiment.

The index’s September performance is assessed on a month-over-month basis, comparing the current figure to August’s level, while the previous August reading itself was measured against July’s outcome. With the headline indicator now moving further below the 50-point threshold, the data suggest Canadian households are becoming slightly more cautious in their economic outlook as the third quarter progresses.
