2026.09.1009:21:36UTC+00Malta Industrial Production Rebounds to 3-Month High

Malta’s industrial production increased by 2.2% year-on-year in July 2026, rebounding from a downwardly revised 2.3% contraction in June. This was the strongest growth since April and was largely supported by a turnaround in the manufacturing sector, where output rose 0.7% after a 2.2% decline in the previous month.

Within manufacturing, higher production of wood, paper products, and printing (+29.5%), as well as other manufacturing (+2.4%), more than offset lower output in rubber, plastic, and other non-metallic mineral products (-7.0%) and in computer, electronic, and optical products and motor vehicles (-5.1%).

By main industrial grouping, output recovered in energy production (22.8% vs -3.5% in June), consumer goods (8.9% vs -7.4%), consumer durable goods (1.4% vs -14.9%), and consumer non-durable goods (9.7% vs -6.5%). In contrast, production in capital goods fell further (-9.0% vs -0.9%), while activity in intermediate goods declined (-3.2% vs +2.6%).

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production rose 1.9% in July, following an upwardly revised 0.2% increase in June.
