2026.09.1806:00:00UTC+00German Producer Prices Accelerate in August, Yearly Growth Climbs to 4.6%

Germany’s producer price inflation gathered pace in August 2026, signaling renewed cost pressures at the factory gate. According to the latest data updated on 18 September 2026, the country’s Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 4.6% year-over-year in August, up from a 3.0% annual increase in July.

Both figures are measured on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month’s price level with the same month a year earlier. The step-up from 3.0% to 4.6% suggests that input and wholesale price pressures are strengthening, which could ultimately feed through to consumer prices if businesses pass higher costs along the supply chain.

The acceleration in German PPI will be closely watched by markets and policymakers as an indicator of underlying inflation dynamics in Europe’s largest economy, particularly after a period in which producer price growth had been comparatively more subdued.
