The Hang Seng Index fell 0.4%, or 92 points, to 24,545 on Tuesday, as investors turned cautious amid rising oil prices, higher global bond yields, and persistent weakness in Chinese technology stocks. Brent crude gained 0.6% to around US$106 per barrel on ongoing supply concerns in the Middle East, stoking worries about inflation and further interest-rate increases.

Sentiment was further dampened by overnight declines on Wall Street, where the US 10-year Treasury yield climbed above 5.2% and the 30-year yield approached 5.55%, intensifying pressure on risk assets worldwide. Mainland Chinese technology shares remained under strain after the US moved closer to restricting Chinese-made components used in AI data centers, while broader Chinese equities also lost ground as optimism faded following the Trump–Xi meeting.

Risk appetite was additionally constrained by cautious positioning ahead of China’s National Day holiday. Among the notable laggards were Tencent (-1.2%), AIA (-0.5%), Lenovo (-0.7%), Xiaomi (-1.8%), and Kingboard Laminates (-1.0%).
