The value of outstanding loans in Brazil’s financial system rose 0.5% in August 2026 from the previous month, reaching R$7.4 trillion and accelerating from a 0.3% increase in July. Lending to corporations edged down 0.1% to R$2.7 trillion, while household credit advanced 0.8% to R$4.7 trillion.

On a yearly basis, total credit expanded 9.2%, slightly below the 9.3% growth recorded in July. Household lending continued to outpace corporate credit, rising 10.5% year-on-year versus 10.6% in the prior month, whereas lending to legal entities slowed to 7.1% from 7.3%.

Credit using free resources totaled R$4.1 trillion, up 0.2% from July and 6.5% from a year earlier. The monthly gain reflected a 0.8% increase in household credit, which more than offset a 0.6% decline in corporate lending; even so, corporate credit in this segment remained 0.5% higher than a year before.
