2026.10.0115:00:00UTC+00Mexico’s Manufacturing Sector Edges Back Into Expansion in September PMI Reading

Mexico’s manufacturing activity moved back into expansion territory in September, as the S&P Global Manufacturing PMI rose to 50.30 from 49.80 in August 2026. The latest reading, released on 1 October 2026, signals a marginal but notable improvement in operating conditions for the country’s factories.

The move above the 50-point threshold, which separates contraction from expansion, suggests that Mexico’s manufacturing sector is stabilizing after showing slight weakness in August. While the increase is modest, it indicates that production, orders, or related components of the index have collectively improved enough to tip the balance back toward growth.

Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming data closely to see whether September’s rebound can be sustained, as consistent readings above 50.0 would strengthen the case for a more durable recovery in Mexico’s industrial sector through the remainder of 2026.
