The S&P 500 finished Monday nearly flat, the Nasdaq slipped 0.4%, and the Dow added 196 points. Technology shares led the declines, while energy, communication services, and consumer staples outperformed.

Investors are positioning ahead of the upcoming earnings season and key US inflation data due later this week. At the same time, oil prices rose after deadly strikes on Riyadh’s airport over the weekend. Crude was further supported by renewed concerns over energy infrastructure after Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said Russia continued to target energy facilities, despite US President Trump’s emphasis on fresh Russian diesel exports and a Russia–Ukraine ceasefire on energy targets.

In corporate news, Micron fell 3.9% as investors weighed intensifying competition from China’s CXMT, while Nvidia slipped 1.3%. By contrast, Meta climbed 3.4% following the release of a long-awaited AI model, and Salesforce advanced 2.1% after an upgrade from Bank of America. Chevron gained 1.4%, supported by higher oil prices.
