Industrial production in Hungary rose by 8.7% year-on-year in August 2026, quickening from 4.7% in July. The stronger performance was driven primarily by manufacturing, which expanded 10.3% compared with 4.9% in the previous month. Within manufacturing, the key contributors were transport equipment (up 43.3% vs. 18.0% in July) and computer, electronic and optical products (up 30.2% vs. 19.7%).

By contrast, several branches remained weak. Output of food, beverages and tobacco products continued to contract (-6.8% vs. -2.3% in July), and the decline in electrical equipment manufacturing deepened (-9.8% vs. -6.0%). Production of rubber, plastics and other non-metallic mineral products fell by 8.0%, while basic metals and fabricated metal products decreased by 3.4%.

Outside manufacturing, mining and quarrying posted a sharp acceleration in growth (93.2% vs. 87.6%), whereas electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply swung into decline (-13.1% vs. +3.8% in July).

On a seasonally and working-day adjusted monthly basis, total industrial output increased by 1.0% in August, moderating from a 1.7% gain in July. Over the period January–August, industrial production was up 3.4% compared with the same period a year earlier.
