Eurozone construction output increased by 1.4% year-on-year in August 2026, its strongest expansion since October 2025, following an upwardly revised 1.7% decline in July. Specialised construction activities rose by 3.1%, rebounding from a 1.2% drop, while the contraction in building construction eased to 3.7% from 6.5%. Civil engineering activity was unchanged on the year, after a 0.2% increase in the previous month.

By country, Germany recorded the strongest performance, with construction output surging 10.5% after a 1.1% rise in July. In contrast, output continued to fall in Spain (-4.3% vs. -10.6%), Italy (-2.2% vs. -0.1%), and France (-7.8% vs. -5.0%).

On a monthly basis, eurozone construction output climbed 1.8% in August, gaining momentum from a 0.2% increase in July. Across the EU as a whole, construction output rose by 2.6%, recovering from a 1.6% decline in the prior month.
