Ireland posted a current account surplus of €19.7 billion in Q2 2026, up from €14 billion in the previous quarter. A decline in the merchandise balance was more than offset by higher services imports.

Merchandise exports reached €105,590 million, an increase of €16,602 million on the second quarter of 2025. Merchandise imports totalled €47,526 million, up €7,132 million over the same period.

Service exports rose by €9,670 million to €136,858 million, driven mainly by higher computer services exports. Service imports increased by €18,446 million to €133,083 million, largely reflecting higher royalty payments.

Investment income earned abroad increased by €2,219 million to €80,143 million, while investment income payable to foreign investors fell by €2,940 million to €121,003 million. As a result, the overall income balance for the quarter stood at -€42,150 million, an improvement of €5,022 million compared with the same period in 2025.
