Cyprus Retail Sales Rise In December

Retail sales in Cyprus increased sharply in December, after falling in the previous month, preliminary data released by the statistical office showed Friday.

Volume turnover of retail sales climbed 31.6 percent on a monthly basis in December, recovering from the 3.9 percent decrease recorded in November.

In the whole of 2011, sales volume dropped 0.9 percent from the previous year. In the January-November period, sales had edged down 0.2 percent year-on-year.

In value terms, retail sales increased 28.7 percent sequentially in December, recovering from the previous month's 3.4 percent decrease. In 2011, the value of sales increased 3.2 percent from a year earlier.
