Italian Business Confidence Declines In April

Confidence among Italian manufacturers dropped in April as production expectations worsened, survey results from the statistical office Istat showed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted confidence indicator for the manufacturing sector fell to 89.5 in April from 91.1 in March. Economists had forecast an increase to 92.1.

Assessments on order books and inventories remained stable, while production expectations worsened, the survey report said.

The confidence index for construction sector, meanwhile, rose to 82.9 from 81.8 in March. There was an improvement in the assessments of the order books but employment expectations worsened.

The confidence gauge for the services sector decreased to 76 in April from 82.2 in March. Confidence among retailers also fell during the month with the indicator falling to 81.8 from 83.8 in March.
